THE CHALLENGE: MAINTAINING BRAND CONSISTENCY ACROSS DISTINCT DESTINATIONS

From the vibrant heart of Bourbon Street to the polished corridors of Capitol Hill, from Puerto Rico’s beachfront rhythm to the lush serenity of Kaua’i, each Royal Sonesta property embodies a wildly different sense of place.

The challenge?

Create a cohesive digital experience that faithfully reflects The Royal Sonesta’s upscale brand identity, rich with deep burgundy, gold, charcoal gray, and elegant serif typography, while allowing each property’s unique character to shine through.
We weren’t just designing hotel websites. We were solving for:

  • Visual harmony across contrasting environments, from tropical resorts to urban hotels, without diluting the brand’s sophistication.
  • Consistent brand recognition, ensuring returning guests and new users experience the same elevated Royal Sonesta standard, no matter the destination.
  • Strong SEO performance, enabling each property to rank competitively in high-intent travel searches across four fiercely competitive markets.
  • A creative tightrope walk, especially for the tropical destinations, where the challenge was communicating vibrancy, warmth, and local energy through the Royal brand’s refined color palette and polished design system.

Balancing visual consistency with local storytelling, while optimizing for search and conversion required a modular design system, a flexible content strategy, and a whole lot of digital spice.

Digital Spice crafted a scalable design system that anchors each site in the Royal Sonesta identity while giving every hotel and resort space to express its local charm. Here’s how we brought it to life:

Modular Templating with Tailored Touches

We created a custom, flexible website template system that could scale across the Royal Sonesta portfolio, yet be infused with destination-specific colors, fonts, and local imagery to give each site its own “sense of place.”

Think: modern Southern charm for New Orleans, political prestige in D.C., beachy elegance for San Juan, and organic tranquility in Kaua’i.

To capture high-intent search traffic, we rebuilt each site with a strong SEO foundation, from optimized metadata and structured content to schema markup and lightning-fast load speeds.

For each Royal Sonesta property, our goal was to create websites that reflect the rhythm of the destination, speaking to the traveler not just through search terms, but through cultural relevance and local insight.

We achieved this by weaving location-specific elements into each property’s site architecture, content strategy, and visual storytelling:

  • Geo-targeted SEO ensured we captured how travelers actually search in each market surfacing each hotel or resort for high-intent, location-based queries.
  • Native dialects and regional phrasing were subtly integrated to honor the destination’s voice, using Hawaiian terms and references that reflect the island’s deep cultural roots.
